Holy bucket

This old man, coming back from his daily routine of washing into the Ganges river, is bringing back home a bucket full of the holy water. On the journey back home from the Ganges, devotees carry small quantities of river water with them for use in rituals. This water is also considered very pure (hummm not...). Don't even think about drinking any. Goma Stick Dance

I was lucky to be in Lamu during the Malaudi annual celebrations. Here the priest holds the tradional goma stick during a celebration near the Riyadha Mosque. The ceremony followed with money donation and the goma stick dance performed by the men worshippers. Maulidi celebrations marks the birth of the Prophet Mohamed. The month-long celebration of Maulid climaxes in a three-day festival organised by religious leaders. The festival brings visitors and pilgrims to Lamu from far afield for recitals of praise poems, music and dances, calligraphy and art exhibits, dhow and donkey races, swimming competitions and finally a lively parade or zeffe that winds through the narrow alleyways of the town, lined by cheering crowds. Peeling like there is no tomorrow

These girls are peeling, one by one, piles of shimps coming over and over in full wheelbarrows. Quite an experience to visit these incredibly atmospheric fishing docks in Mumbai. Dating from 1875, the Sassoon docks are the oldest and largest wholesale fish market in Mumbai, and one of the biggest in Asia. Very early morning, I headed to the docks...no way to get lost, the smell was horrible even hundred meters away. I was expecting fishy smell once there, but I was not ready for this...The smell was so intense my clothes and shoes stinked for weeks...and even my camera and lenses were still smelling weeks after. So many boats (at least 60) were unloading tons of fishes and seafood...still, only 3 hours later, all the fish was gone ! (Normally closed to tourist, haven't seen any other one.)
